Why is my phone to PC file transfer so slow?

I'm trying to back up my Galaxy S25 to my Windows PC, but the transfer speed is incredibly slow. It's estimating around 4 hours to move 120 GB of photos and videos, which seems way off. Initially, I used a USB 2.0 cable, but then switched to a USB 3.2 cable hoping for better speeds. My laptop has Thunderbolt 4 and 3.0 USB ports and, as far as I know, the S25 supports USB 3.0 data transfer. I've noticed that transferring larger video files (about 7GB) is fast, taking just about a minute, but transferring photos is really slow, around 3 seconds each. I've selected the 'file transfer' option under USB settings. Others have mentioned transferring large amounts of data in minutes, so I'm wondering what I might be doing wrong. Any advice would be appreciated!

The slow transfer speed is likely due to the way small files, like photos, are handled. Each photo transfers individually, which can really drag things out. If you zip the photos into one big file before transferring, you might see a significant speed boost. It's just the nature of transferring a lot of small files one by one. You might want to try that out!

Is that just a limitation of using file explorer to transfer many individual files, or is it about the way Android connects to PCs? I used to upload lots of photos from my iPhone without these issues. Zipping seems like a hassle, but if it speeds things up, I might have to do it.
