Why is my software running so slowly after upgrading to Windows 2022?

I've recently migrated a client's infrastructure from Windows 2008R2 to Windows 2022, and we're experiencing some strange performance issues with a specific application that uses a file database located on an SMB share. On the old Windows 2008R2 server, the software loaded relatively quickly, typically between 30 to 40 seconds. However, after the upgrade, load times have become erratic—some machines take 40 seconds while others take up to 30 minutes! I've done some debugging and it seems like the file accesses on the slower machines are throttled even though there are no obvious limitations. I've disabled OPLocks and it helped a bit, but the results are still inconsistent. It's baffling because two identical Windows 10 machines on the same network switch can show such different performance. I'm looking for any insights or similar experiences from others, especially since the software vendor is also stumped.

I had a similar problem and found that disabling NetAdapterRCS fixed it for me. It might be worth a try to see if it helps in your situation.

I remember reading about OPLock changes and didn’t think it would cause such random slowdowns. Once I disabled NetAdapterRCS as you suggested, it remarkably improved the situation. Thank you!
