Why is my SSD only transferring at 30-40MBps instead of 400-500MBps?

I recently got a Hikvision T300S portable SSD paired with a 240-watt, 80gbps transfer cable, but I'm only seeing transfer speeds around 30-40MBps. Based on the specs, I expected speeds of at least 400-500MBps. What can I do to troubleshoot and resolve this issue?

First off, you should check if you're using a USB 3.1 or 3.2 Gen 2 cable and make sure your port supports those versions. If you're plugged into a USB 2.0 port, the max speed would be 40MBps, so that's likely what's happening here.

You might want to look into the quality of the SSD. Some off-brand models might not use the best NAND chips, which can seriously impact transfer speeds. It’s not uncommon for these drives to have inflated speed claims.
