Why is my SSD performing so slowly after just a few months?

I recently ran some speed tests on my SSD using CrystalDisk and the results are concerning. The read and write speeds seem extremely low, especially for a device that's only a few months old. My SSD model is a 512GB and it's connected via USB. I'm using an Acer Nitro 5 laptop with a specific motherboard. Despite the low speeds, CrystalDiskInfo reports that the drive is healthy. Could anyone help me figure out what's causing these slow speeds?

From the information you've provided, it seems like your SSD is classified as a SATA drive and not an NVMe one, which can naturally be slower. Additionally, if your motherboard has older m.2 slots or it’s sharing bandwidth with other devices, that could limit performance too. It might help to check your motherboard specs and see if there’s a more optimal slot or setup for your SSD.

I have older SATA-600 equipment in my laptop, so I don’t think that’s causing the issue.

It looks like you're experiencing some pretty low speeds here, which could be due to several factors. First off, if your SSD is connected via USB, make sure you're using a good quality USB port and cable. USB connections can sometimes bottleneck speeds, especially if it's not USB 3.0 or higher. Also, since your SSD is already around 85% full, that can significantly slow it down. SSDs generally perform best with more free space.
