I just set up a Wi-Fi extender since my upstairs room has terrible signal. While I get speeds of 50Mbps up here, I'm able to go as high as 300-400Mbps downstairs. The extender I bought claims it can reach up to 1,200Mbps, but no matter how I connect it—through Ethernet directly to my desktop or wirelessly—I'm capped at 100Mbps. I've tried both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands and even a direct Ethernet connection, but it doesn't go higher than that. What's going wrong? The extender is the AC-1200MBPS Dual-Band Wireless Repeater I found on Amazon.

It sounds like one of your devices might be limited by a 100Mbps port, and that could be your Wi-Fi extender. If you're getting higher speeds by plugging the same Ethernet cable into your computer, then your extender might not be up to par for those faster speeds.
