Why is my WiFi so slow despite paying for gig-speed?

I have Spectrum and I'm paying for gig-speed, but I'm getting really slow download speeds—less than 1 Mbps! I have a TP-Link Archer BE260, and my home is 1700 square feet with only four devices connected: my phone, my Roku stick, my girlfriend's phone, and a laptop. I even did a hard reset on both the modem and the router. Does anyone have any advice on what might be going wrong?

Also, look out for any appliances or devices near your router that might cause interference—like microwaves. It's worth checking if only one or two devices are having issues or all of them.

First off, have you checked the speed using an Ethernet cable? That can give you a clearer idea of what your connection is like without the WiFi interference. Also, remember that the speed mentioned in your contract is often 'up to' a certain speed, not a guaranteed speed for WiFi.

Exactly! The WiFi speed can be influenced by many factors, including distance from the router and the presence of other electronics. If you haven’t yet, try testing your speed close to the router.

You might want to unplug any WiFi extenders you have and see if that helps. Also, check if you're connected to a 5GHz band if your router broadcasts both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Those extra network names can sometimes confuse things!

Good tip! Having multiple network names can definitely complicate things. Just make sure your devices are on the best band for your needs!
