Why is my WiFi speed so inconsistent, fluctuating between slow and fast?

I've recently switched from using an Ethernet LAN cable to a wireless connection, and now I'm experiencing really erratic WiFi speeds. The router is just 4 meters away in the next room, separated by one wall, but I'm finding that YouTube barely loads at 144p. Oddly, I can still stream Netflix in high quality without any issues. My WiFi signal always shows full bars, yet my download speeds are all over the place. For example, I've seen them drop from 70 kbps to peak at 100 Mbps, but one time a download failed, and I even encountered a blue screen briefly. Is there anything specific I should be looking into to troubleshoot this WiFi speed problem? I tried running a troubleshooting tool, but it didn't find any issues.

Sounds like it could be your modem or router that's not the best. Are there a lot of devices connected to it? That could slow things down too. Also, what's this Wi-Fi 2 thing you mentioned? It might be worth checking out.

I checked my Network & Internet settings and it shows Wi-Fi 2 with the toggle on. Only that option is available. The hardware properties indicate it's on Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) at 5 GHz, but yeah, we have quite a few devices connected: 2 TVs, a PC, a laptop, and 2 phones. Not sure if that’s a lot.

You should try checking your speed at fast.com to see what you're really getting right now. That might give you a clearer picture of the situation without all the distractions.

If you're dealing with BSODs, dump files can really help in diagnosing the issue. If you can boot into Windows, check the C:WindowsMinidump folder for any crash logs. If you find some, zip them up and upload them to a file sharing site. This info could be crucial in figuring out why your PC crashes and how that affects your WiFi speed.
