Why Is My Windows 10 Laptop Slowing Down After Using It in the Heat?

I have a Dell Rugged Latitude 5424 equipped with an i5-8350U processor and a Radeon RX 540 GPU. I dual boot Windows 10 and Ubuntu 24.04. After using my laptop in a hot car for about 20 minutes, I noticed it started to slow down on Windows 10, making games like Noita barely playable. I've checked Microsoft Defender, and it reports no viruses. I'm trying various CPU optimization tips but haven't seen much change on the Linux side. Any suggestions on what I should do?

It sounds like heat could be a major factor here. High temperatures can cause the CPU to throttle, leading to performance drops. Have you considered using a cooling pad or making sure the vents aren't blocked? Keeping the laptop in a cooler environment might help too.

If the slowdown persists even after cooling down, you might want to check for software issues. Sometimes, background processes can start up and hog resources. Try checking the Task Manager to see if anything unusual is running when the slowdown happens. You might also want to consider updating your drivers, especially for the graphics card.
