Why isn’t my 4-port router/switch transmitting an Ethernet signal?

I recently relocated to a new house that has a built-in 4 Port Gigabit Enhanced Router/Switch (model DA1054) with Cat5e cables that run through the walls to two separate rooms upstairs. I've set it to switch mode and connected my Xfinity Gateway router/modem to it using an Ethernet cord, but I'm not getting any signal from any of the outlets. I even tried plugging different Ethernet cables into each port, but that not only failed to work but also seemed to slow down my WiFi drastically. I'm at a loss and considering just running new cables from the router up two floors, but I wonder if I'm missing something here.

Have you considered just getting a cheap gigabit switch instead? That could be an easy fix!

I could do that, but I'm trying to avoid running a new wire all the way up two floors from the basement if possible. I'd like to see if I can get this current setup working first.

Have you checked if the gateway is connected to a LAN port instead of the WAN port? In switch mode, you typically only use LAN ports for a proper setup. Just a thought!

Yeah, I initially plugged it into a LAN port but realized that I was being a bit clueless. With it set on switch mode, the WAN port basically acts as an additional LAN port.
