Why isn’t my audio working on my new PC?

Hey everyone! I just built my first PC using an older motherboard and I'm having a real issue with audio. When I try to play videos, there's no sound at all, even though my volume is maxed out and it shows that it's recognizing the audio from the video. I've followed every guide out there, checking device manager, control panel, and updating drivers, but nothing seems to help. I'm on Windows 11 Pro with an MSI motherboard and it keeps indicating that the speakers are connected to my monitor. I've also adjusted the sound settings in the monitor's BIOS, but it's still not working. I really need this computer for streaming and I'm frustrated since I don't want to feel like I'm wasting my investment. Any help would be hugely appreciated!

Did you check your monitor's audio settings? Sometimes the volume can be really low or muted, and that's easy to overlook. Also, just in case, make sure the right audio output is selected on your PC – navigate to your sound settings and ensure it's pointing to your monitor if that’s what you’re using for audio. Good luck!

It sounds like your monitor might not actually have built-in speakers, even if it's connected through HDMI or DisplayPort. Sometimes monitors show up as audio devices but lack audio output entirely. Try connecting external speakers directly to the motherboard's audio jack instead. Make sure to set your default audio output device to the motherboard option in your sound settings. If your monitor does have speakers, just double-check that the volume on the monitor itself is turned up, too!

I had the same issue! Turns out my monitor didn't have any speakers. Once I plugged in some external ones, everything worked perfectly.
