Why isn’t my gaming PC hitting the performance I expected?

Hey everyone! I recently built a gaming PC, but it doesn't seem to be performing as well as I'd hoped. Here are my specs:

- GPU: Asus NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 "Blackwell" Dual OC 12GB GDDR7 DLSS4
- CPU: Intel Core i7-14700KF (14th gen) "Raptor Lake Refresh" 20-Core 2.5GHz Turbo 5.6GHz 33MB Cache Skt1700
- PSU: ATX Nox Urano VX 650W 80 Plus Bronze Edition
- Storage: SSD M.2 2280 SanDisk WD Blue SN580 2TB TLC NVMe PCIe Gen 4.0x4
- Motherboard: ATX MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk WiFi Skt1700
- RAM: Corsair 32GB (2x 16GB) @6000MHz
- Cooler: CPU Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO V2
- OS: Windows 11 Pro

I feel like my setup should be performing a lot better. For instance, I'm only getting around 100fps in games like SCUM, VEIN, and PUBG on max settings. Any advice on what I could do to improve performance? Thanks in advance!

Have you ensured all your drivers and BIOS are updated? Also double-check your XMP settings and the Windows updates – those can be crucial for performance!

All drivers are current, but I haven't updated Windows since one of the previous updates caused stutters for me.

Definitely consider checking for BIOS updates; that can make a world of difference.

Sometimes the monitor can make a difference. What's the refresh rate on yours compared to your friend's?

Mine's a curved AOC 27" at 240Hz, while his is an LG UltraGear 24GQ50F-B at 165Hz.

What resolution are you gaming at? And have you checked the temperatures of your CPU and GPU? They can really affect performance if they're too high.

I'm at 1920x1080, and temps are around 70-80°C for both CPU and GPU.

I had similar issues with my setup! Running Geekbench 6 can help gauge your performance. Make sure your BIOS is updated, re-enable XMP for full RAM speed, and try these settings in your BIOS: Lite load mode 3-4, set LLC to level 3, and don't forget to stability test after adjustments.

Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll definitely try those out.

I totally get that feeling! First, have you compared your performance with similar setups? Sometimes it's helpful to see if you're actually lagging behind in benchmarks.

Yeah, my friend has the same specs and he's getting 170 to 200 FPS on those games.
