Why Isn’t My M.2 SSD Showing Up in BIOS?

Hey everyone! I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem with my son's computer. His M.2 SSD doesn't appear in the BIOS when plugged into the M.2 slot, but it does work fine when I connect it through a USB enclosure. I'm using an R5 3600 processor with an Asus ROG Strix B550-A motherboard, Crucial P3 Plus 1TB SSD, and an Asus Dual RTX 4060 graphics card. Any ideas on what might be causing this issue?

You might need to initialize the drive from Disk Management. If it's not set up properly, that could prevent it from showing up in the BIOS. I've seen a lot of folks find helpful tutorials on YouTube for this, so that might be worth a look.

I've tried that on other systems, and it worked. I'll revisit Disk Management to see if I missed something.

It's possible that your motherboard's M.2 slot and the graphics card share the same controller, which means that only one can be active at a time. Have you checked if this is the case? Also, make sure you’re using the correct M.2 slot if your motherboard has more than one.

Thanks for the tip! I'll check out the motherboard specs and see if that's the case.
