Why isn’t my new SSD showing up in Windows?

I recently installed a new Kioxia Exceria NVMe 1TB M.2 SSD into my HP Spectre x360 16, and it's recognized in the BIOS under Intel Rapid Storage Technology, but it doesn't appear in Windows at all. I've tried updating the drivers and working with the settings in the BIOS, but I can't seem to find a way to format it or create partitions since it's not visible anywhere else. It's a brand new SSD with nothing on it, and I've spent a couple of hours troubleshooting without success. Any help would be appreciated!

Have you checked if there's an option under IRST to disable the VMD Controller? Sometimes, you can switch the storage mode to AHCI from the BIOS, which can help with these visibility issues. If you can’t find those options, there are some other rare fixes we can try.

You could also try disabling Secure Boot and ensuring that your Boot Mode is set to UEFI and not Legacy. If you can't find those options either, I might be out of ideas. Good luck with it!

I've looked around and I'm struggling to switch it to AHCI too. It gets really tricky sometimes. Here’s a visual of what I’m dealing with (linked image).

Hey everyone who might read this, I figured out my issue! I initially downloaded the wrong files for the Intel drivers, but after redoing it, everything started to work. Just make sure you get the right ones!

It sounds like your SSD is completely empty, which is normal for a new one. You generally need to set it up first by creating a GPT partition table and a primary partition. Then, once that's done, you can format it using a file system like NTFS. After that, it should appear in Windows.
