Why Isn’t My PC Using the GPU for Games?

I'm having trouble with my PC recognizing my GPU (AMD Radeon HD 5570) while I'm gaming. I've tried updating the drivers and even forcing Windows to use the GPU, but when I check the Task Manager, it shows no GPU usage at all. Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions?

Double-check your HDMI or DisplayPort cable is plugged into the correct slot on the GPU. Sometimes it can accidentally get plugged into the motherboard instead.

Make sure to go to Settings > System > Display > Graphics. From there, you can select your application, click on Options, and set it to High performance. Be sure to do this for each game or program you want to run with the dedicated GPU.

I've tried that already. I started a game, played for a bit, then opened Task Manager, and it still shows 0% usage. So frustrating!

If you're using a laptop, is it plugged into the power supply? Many laptops will disable the GPU if they're running on battery to save power.

It could be that you have integrated graphics on your system, which might be more powerful than your Radeon HD 5570. Since that card is pretty old, it's worth checking if it's actually being utilized or not.
