Why Won’t Apple Refund My Subscription Charges?

I recently had a frustrating experience with Apple's subscription policy. I signed up for some free trials on a few Apple apps and unfortunately forgot to cancel them before they converted to paid subscriptions. To my surprise, I found $200 missing from my bank account! I immediately requested refunds twice, but both times I received an automatic response saying I wasn't eligible. I called Apple Support in New Zealand today and the representative explained that the decision was final due to their policy and my account history. I understand if it's a small amount, but $200 is significant for me, especially as I'm a minor and an international student. Is there really no way for me to get this money back?

The key thing to remember is to cancel your subscriptions right when you start the free trials. Even if you get the trial period, you need to be proactive! If you waited until the charge hit your bank account and it’s happened more than once, I can see why Apple isn't budging on this.

I get that you want your money back, but when you sign up for subscriptions, you're usually on the hook for the charges unless you cancel. That's just how it works. It's tough, but it’s your responsibility to keep track of that stuff.

You might be able to do a chargeback if you used a credit card, but be warned that could lead to your Apple account being banned. Best bet is to reach out to the app developers directly, but refunds are pretty rare with them too.

As a minor, legally you might not be able to create binding subscription agreements. I get that you feel upset, but Apple is just protecting themselves from potential abuse of the system. You should be more cautious with subscriptions going forward!

Honestly, forgetting to unsubscribe isn't seen as a valid excuse anymore, especially if it seems like a recurring issue. Your account history likely shows this has happened multiple times, which is why Apple is being strict about refunds.
