Why Won’t My CD Burner Recognize Blank Discs?

Hey everyone! I'm new to burning CDs and I recently got an external CD/DVD burner. I've tried both imitation CD-Rs and Sony CD-Rs, but my computer keeps saying no disk is detected. I'm not sure what's going on. The burner claims it can handle CD-Rs, CD-RWs, and DVDs, and I'm trying to burn some music onto these discs. Has anyone experienced something similar, or can anyone help me troubleshoot?

Could you tell us what kind of PC and operating system you’re using? It sounds like you might have a driver issue, especially if Windows isn't detecting the drive in Device Manager. Also, what brand are your discs? It might help to know that too!

I'm on a gaming PC with Windows. The burner is a 'Masroo External DVD Drive' I got from Amazon, and the discs are from a brand called imitation.

Try using CDBurnerXP to burn your CDs. It's a solid program for getting audio files onto discs. Here's the link to help you get started: https://cdburnerxp.se/help/audio/compileaudio

Have you checked whether the drive can actually play a CD? Sometimes the read head is dirty. If you're not sure how to clean it, I can help with tips!

Make sure you’re using the correct burning software! Just putting a blank CD in won't work like it would on a USB drive. You’ll need the right program to prepare the disc, then burn your music onto it.

How do I go about checking if it has a drive letter in File Explorer? I’m not very tech-savvy.

If you're making a CD for a music player, make sure Windows detects the drive in Device Manager. If it does, try burning at the slowest speed possible; this can sometimes help with recognition issues.
