After not using my HP Pavilion laptop for a month, it's stuck in recovery mode and won't boot up properly. When I try to recover it, it says my drive is locked. I'm pretty clueless about what to do next—can anyone help?

It sounds like your issue might be linked to your CMOS battery resetting. HP's design choice to not use a traditional CMOS battery can be problematic if the battery runs out, which resets the BIOS and can also affect BitLocker encryption. Unfortunately, this could mean that your data might be unrecoverable. However, if you set up a Microsoft account when you installed Windows, you might be able to find your recovery key online by checking your account's device section. That key should help you unlock your drive and get back into Windows.
If your drive is locked with BitLocker, you'll definitely need the recovery key to access your files. You can often find it tied to your Microsoft account if you set it up. Log into your account on Microsoft’s website and check under the devices section. If you haven’t set up an account, unfortunately, your options get really limited.
