My girlfriend's iPhone has been great at recognizing both our faces for a while now, but suddenly it just stopped. We've checked everything—no lighting issues, nothing blocking the camera, and no recent updates causing problems. It's as if the phone has completely forgotten both of our faces. We can't even reset the Face ID because it requires the Face ID to do it, which seems ridiculous. Every time we try to add or change the Face ID, it triggers the stolen device mode, which can only be deactivated with—guess what?—Face ID! I've scoured the internet for a way to bypass this with a password, but there's no option. Since my girlfriend relies on this for all her passwords, this is becoming urgent, and I'm pretty stumped on how to help her out.

Face ID is designed for a single user and actually learns over time. If you were using it for both your faces, that might be the issue. Just a heads up, if you go to reset Face ID without being able to verify, it can get tricky. You might need to erase the iPhone to fix this. Check out the Recovery Mode guide on Apple’s site to get the phone back to normal without the Face ID.
Just to clarify, failing Face ID doesn’t activate the Stolen Device Protection by itself. That feature is activated when someone enables it. If you're locked out, using a PC or Mac to put the iPhone in Recovery Mode could help. It might require a little troubleshooting, but should get you access again.
Thanks for clarifying that! I'll give the Recovery Mode a shot, fingers crossed.
Yeah, I didn’t realize it was meant for one person too. Can't believe it just forgot both of you! Erasing everything feels like a last resort but it might be the only way, huh?
