Why Won’t My Key Fob Work for My Apartment?

I live in a student apartment with a key fob lock system. Usually, when I hold my key fob up to the lock, it either flashes green to let me in or red/yellow if there's an issue. Until today, my fob has been working perfectly. Now, it's just not being accepted by the lock. Can anyone explain what might be going on?

You might want to check in with resident services to have them reset or replace your fob. There are lots of reasons this could happen—maybe there's been a mistake with your access schedule, or someone reset the access list. It's also possible that your fob is broken. Best bet is to talk to someone who can help you out.

Totally agree! Most often, it's an issue that a member of the building's security team needs to fix. Occasionally hardware at the door can fail too, or there might be an issue with your actual fob, especially if you've been near strong magnets. But contacting resident services is definitely the way to go.

You really can't figure this out on your own. The most common culprit is a faulty key fob. The management needs to replace it and keep an eye on any further problems you might encounter. Trust me, they'll know what to do!

Funny enough, sometimes things can get mixed up—like being in the wrong building. But it sounds like you found out that the leasing office had actually reprogrammed some fobs, which means you got the right fix with your replacement! Glad it's sorted now.

Yep, exactly! I found out the leasing office had messed with the fobs, so I got a new one, and that did the trick!
