Why won’t my laptop connect to Ethernet through the docking station?

Hey everyone! I've run into a bit of a problem. My laptop doesn't have its own Ethernet port, but I recently bought a docking station that connects to an Ethernet switch. However, my laptop doesn't seem to recognize the Ethernet connection and keeps prompting me to use Wi-Fi instead. I'd love to know if there are any troubleshooting steps I should try. Thanks a ton!

Edit: I found out that after restarting, it works, but the connection is pretty spotty. I suspect there might be compatibility issues between the docking station and my laptop.

It sounds like you might be missing some drivers. Make sure you’ve installed the driver for the docking station itself as well as some kind of Ethernet driver. That could be what’s preventing your laptop from recognizing the connection.

I haven’t installed either yet. I’ll check to see if the docking station requires any specific driver. I thought Ethernet drivers weren't needed, but maybe I was wrong!
