I've got a Lenovo Ideapad 80XL that only turns on when it's plugged into the AC adapter. Even though the battery reports as healthy, it shuts down as soon as I unplug it after booting past the Lenovo loading screen. I've tried resetting the BIOS and reinstalling battery drivers, but nothing seems to help. Running a Windows battery report, along with a Lenovo vintage battery report, confirms the battery is in good condition. Also, my laptop is really slow to boot, with the HDD always running at 100% and my 8GB RAM sitting at 50%-60% usage. Does anyone have ideas on what could be wrong?

It sounds like you might be dealing with a hardware issue, possibly related to the charging circuit or power delivery, even if the battery looks good on reports. Since you've checked software and BIOS options, try performing a full power drain reset: unplug the AC adapter and the battery, hold the power button for about 30 to 60 seconds, then plug in just the AC and try powering it on. If the problem remains, it might point to a failing battery controller or motherboard component, which would likely require repair.
Thanks to your advice, it worked! My laptop is back to normal now!
Have you replaced your battery before? If your laptop's old enough to still use an HDD for boot, then the battery might be on its last legs too. Just because the health reports look fine doesn't always mean it's functioning properly.
I replaced the battery about 10 months ago, so it should still be decent.
I did what you suggested and powered the laptop without the battery. It actually powered on! Does that indicate anything significant?
