Why won’t my Lenovo IdeaPad L340 detect my graphic card?

I'm having a frustrating issue with my Lenovo IdeaPad L340 where the graphic card keeps disconnecting randomly while I'm coding or gaming. It would usually come back after resting the laptop for a bit, but now it won't detect the graphic card at all. I tried resetting the BIOS, but that didn't help. I took it to a technician, who told me that the graphic card is basically dead and that this is a common problem with this model. He suggested I'm left with only the integrated graphics. Is there any way to fix this or am I out of luck?

It's strange how a laptop GPU can just disconnect like that, but it's typically all or nothing. When it's failing, you might see bluescreens, and then the GPU won't show up in Device Manager. Sounds like your laptop might be experiencing a common issue with the L340's dedicated GPU.

It's a bummer for sure, especially if you loved your laptop. Hopefully, you can find a good replacement soon!

Yeah, the L340's dedicated GPU has a pretty notorious reputation for failing. It's a hardware problem that doesn't really have a fix, sadly. Looks like your technician had it right. You're probably better off using the integrated graphics now, or thinking about an upgrade if you can swing it!

I totally get it! I loved my old laptop too, but sometimes you just need to move on. Five years is a solid run!
