Why won’t my monitor wake up with my new PC build?

Hey everyone, I recently built a new PC using an old GPU and parts from a computer I picked up on Facebook Marketplace. I've run into a strange problem: when I power on the PC, the monitor needs to be in sleep mode for the computer to boot. If the monitor is not in sleep mode at startup, it won't turn on during the boot-up process. I also noticed that even if I turn the monitor on manually while booting, it still won't come out of sleep mode.

I have performed a clean installation of Windows using Rufus and cleared all disks but this issue persists. Oddly enough, the GPU and computer used to work fine together before I made this new build. I encountered an AMD Ryzen installation error at one point (I'll check the code later). Additionally, my monitor went to sleep while I was installing the GPU drivers, forcing me to do a hard restart.

I've tested the monitor on another computer, and it works perfectly, so I suspect the issue lies with my new setup. Once I'm home, I'm planning to try the GPU in my other rig to see if that's where the problem is. Here are my specs: AMD Ryzen 3900X, RTX 3070, MAG B550 motherboard, Corsair Vengeance B550 RAM, 750W EVGA PSU, and a Samsung 980 NVMe SSD. Any insights would be super helpful!

It sounds like you might have a weird monitor initialization issue. Have you considered updating your BIOS? That could potentially fix communication problems between the motherboard and the monitor, especially during boot.

Yeah, I talked to a friend who works in IT and he suggested the same thing. It really is a strange situation though, not much info online about it!
