Why Won’t My Motherboard Power On With an mSATA SSD Installed?

I have an old Intel DH87RL motherboard that I use for a home server, and it has an mSATA slot where I've installed a 128GB Transcend mSATA SSD. However, whenever I try to power it on with the SSD installed, it goes into a loop, making a faint clicking sound repeatedly without even reaching the POST screen. I've tested all other components, and they work fine. When I remove the SSD, the motherboard powers on without any issues. After that, I can hotplug the SSD and reboot, which works, but I have to take out the GPU for access, making this a real hassle. My setup includes an Intel Pentium G3220, 4x2GB DDR3 RAM, and an MSI RX 550 2GB for transcoding media, along with several SATA HDDs for storage. It's frustrating—any ideas on what's causing this?

It sounds like you're quite the tech enthusiast! Have you checked if the mSATA SSD has any leftover boot partitions on it that might be causing the BIOS to get confused? Sometimes old data can mess things up during the boot process.

I checked, but this was a completely new drive with a fresh install from over a year ago. It doesn’t even get to POST; it just keeps clicking. I think the power supply might be an issue too since I'm using a low-end 350W Seasonic. I'm planning to install a new PSU with higher wattage soon.
