Hey everyone! I built a PC about a month ago with some solid components: a Ryzen 9800 X3D processor, a BeQuiet Dark Rock cooler, a Gigabyte B650M Aorus Elite AX V2 motherboard, 64GB of Corsair Vengeance 6000 CL30 RAM, a Zotac RTX 5080 graphics card, and a Corsair RM1000e power supply. Everything was running smoothly until I decided to spice things up by adding some Arctic PWM PST RGB fans and a fan controller for lighting.
I hooked everything up but noticed some lights flickered from the fans while the PC was off. At first, I didn't think much of it, but then the PC just wouldn't power on. I started worrying that I might have damaged my motherboard, so I sent it in for a replacement. After receiving the new one and reconnecting everything, I faced the same issue.
On the first power attempt, I saw some RGB lights, but then nothing happened again. I even swapped out the new fans for the original ones that came with the case and disconnected everything else to troubleshoot, but still no luck.
Is it possible that these RGB fans could have caused damage to my motherboard twice? Could the problem be with my PSU instead? I'm really confused about what might have gone wrong!

I agree with TechGuru. RGB fans can indeed cause issues if they’re not connected correctly. If you did everything right on the second try while the power was off, you might want to inspect the PSU as well. Sometimes they can fail, and it can be hard to tell just by looking.
It sounds like you might have potentially shorted something out when connecting the RGB fans. If you were connecting fans while the PSU was on (even if the PC was off), that could fry components. Make sure the PSU is completely off when working inside the case!
Also, double-check your connections. Are you certain the RGB connection was properly set to the 5V header? Any connection to the 12V could cause serious damage.
Yeah, definitely check those power connections! I had a similar issue before where I misconnected the RGB and it messed up my board. It might just be bad luck or defective fans, but just be careful about the connections next time!
Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely take another look at everything. It's frustrating to have this happen twice!
