I recently replaced the RAM in my roommate's computer, but now the fans turn on for a few seconds before the system shuts down and starts over without responding. I've tried a few solutions, and when I put the old RAM back, everything boots up fine. Here are the specs of the PC: it has a Gigabyte B460M DS3H AC motherboard, an MSI GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card, and an Intel Core i5-10400F processor.
I'm trying to replace the old RAM with two sticks of Samsung M393A2G40EB1-CRC 16GB DDR4 2400MHz ECC Registered. I've made sure the RAM is seated properly, XMP settings aren't present in BIOS, and I've powered down for resets. Yet, every time I try with the new RAM, the system exhibits the same shutdown and restart behavior. I'm at a loss here—could the new RAM just be incompatible?

It looks like the issue stems from using ECC Registered RAM. Your CPU and motherboard don’t support that type of memory, which is why your PC can’t boot with it. Maybe you got a good deal, but it’s suited for servers, not desktops!

Wow, I didn’t know ECC and Registered RAM had these limitations! I’ll have to remember that for future builds. Thanks for clearing it up!
