Why won’t my PC start with a new SATA SSD installed?

I've been having trouble getting my computer to start up with a new SATA SSD installed. The SSD is a Crucial MX500 250 GB, and it works perfectly when I connect it externally via USB. However, when I plug it into the PC, the screen remains black as if the system is asleep. The keyboard and motherboard lights are on, but pressing any key causes the computer to shut off. I even disabled Fast Startup to see if that would help. I've tried different SATA cables and even disconnected other drives to check for conflicts, but no luck. Any thoughts on what could be causing this issue?

Have you considered trying another computer to test the SSD internally? Sometimes there can be compatibility issues with certain setups, and it's good to rule that out. If you can confirm it works elsewhere, you'll know it's an issue specific to your setup.

Unfortunately, I don't have another computer to test it in.

I've noticed that the SATA ports on your motherboard are color-coded. This usually indicates different controllers. Since it's an older motherboard, there might be a limitation on using all ports alongside a video card. You might want to check if disconnecting some devices allows your SSD to play nice.

I did try disconnecting one drive, but I still ran into the same problem even with only three drives connected.

Since you're using an older motherboard with a new SSD, you might need to boot using UEFI to access the GPT drive. If that's not an option, consider reformatting your SSD to an MBR layout instead. That might solve the boot issue you're facing.

I'm not familiar with UEFI or GPT; I need to research those terms.
