Why Won’t My Second M.2 Slot Recognize My SSD?

Hey everyone! I recently bought a new NVMe drive for my ASRock B660M-C motherboard, but I'm having a tough time with the M.2.2 slot. It doesn't seem to recognize my new SSD at all, neither in BIOS nor in Windows. I've checked and my boot drive is in the M.2.1 slot, and when I swapped them, my new SSD got recognized, but then my boot drive disappeared. I'm not very tech-savvy and have spent a few hours researching solutions. I've come across some suggestions that I might need to enable some settings in the BIOS, or that maybe the M.2.2 slot could be faulty. Any advice or tips would be hugely appreciated!

Don’t forget to check your BIOS settings! Sometimes, the M.2 slots can be disabled by default in there. It might help to go through those options and make sure M.2.2 is enabled. If you’re unsure how to do that, I can help walk you through it!

I’m not really sure what to look for in the BIOS. Could you explain how to find those settings?

Looking at your motherboard's manual, it seems like there shouldn’t be any lane sharing issues, so M.2.2 should definitely be functional. Since it’s not recognizing two different SSDs, I’d lean towards the slot being defective. Since this slot connects to the PCH chip, the issue isn't from the CPU socket itself. You might need to consider getting it checked or looking at a PCIe to M.2 adapter as an alternative.

Thanks for checking that out! If it is damaged, do you think the PCIe to M.2 adapter would be a good fix?
