WiFi Drops When Charger is Plugged In on Ubuntu 24.04 – Anyone Else Facing This?

Hey folks, I'm experiencing a weird issue with my WiFi on Ubuntu 24.04 running on an HP 15s-eq3xxx laptop with a Realtek RTL8852BE WiFi card. I have a dual boot setup with Windows 11. The problem started after I enabled 'Network Boot' in the BIOS and adjusted some settings as suggested by a couple of AI tools.

Here's what happens:
- When I boot my laptop without the charger connected, the WiFi works fine.
- But if I plug in the charger while I'm using Ubuntu, the WiFi completely disappears.
- If I boot with the charger already plugged in, WiFi is just missing.
- The only way to get the WiFi back is by rebooting without the charger.

It seems like the WiFi device stops being recognized when switching to AC power. Has anyone dealt with a similar problem, particularly with the RTL8852BE or on HP laptops? Could this be related to power management settings, ACPI, or possibly driver issues (rtw89)? Thanks in advance for your help!

Is your power outlet grounded? It might not make a difference with how the laptop charger works, but grounding issues can sometimes cause electrical anomalies. Just a thought!

Sounds like you might be dealing with a static electricity issue. Some laptops have this problem where the power cable causes a short with the network card. I had to detach my power cable and reboot to reset my card when it happened to me. Definitely check out if others have shared similar experiences online.

Have you checked if fastboot is disabled in your Windows setup? Also, be aware that Realtek WiFi cards can be quite unreliable on Linux, often due to poor driver support. You might find some cards even struggle on Windows, too.

Yeah, this sounds just like my issue! It’s super frustrating. I wasn't sure if it was a hardware fault or a software conflict. Maybe I should look deeper into grounding issues!
