Will a 500W PSU Be Sufficient for an RTX 4060 and i5-14600KF?

Hey everyone! I'm planning a build with an RTX 4060 and an i5-14600KF processor. I already have a 500W PSU, and I'm wondering if that's enough power for my setup. I'll also have a cooler, some case fans, an NVMe drive, and two HDDs. The motherboard I'm getting is an Asus TUF B760M PLUS II DDR5. I'm on a tight budget, so I can't get a more powerful PSU right now. Any thoughts on whether the 500W will do the trick?

What brand and model is your PSU? Generally, if it's a decent 500W unit from a reputable brand, you might still be okay. Just remember, under load, that the CPU and GPU combined can pull a lot, especially if you tweak settings. If possible, get a class-rated PSU for headroom!

You should be fine for now! The RTX 4060 is surprisingly efficient, only needing about 115W, while the i5-14600KF can push around 180W. In total, with your other components, you’ll probably be around 350W. Just keep an eye on your load; if you notice instability, it might be time for an upgrade.

Can it work? Yes. Should you stick with it? That’s up to you. I’ve input your components into PCPartPicker, and it estimates a max draw of 488W, which is pretty close to your limit. If it’s an older PSU, it might be safer to think about an upgrade soon.

I’d be cautious. The 14th gen chips tend to draw more power compared to previous generations. While Corsair’s PSU calculator suggests it could work, it's cutting it pretty close. A modern build really benefits from a newer PSU for stability and efficiency.

Honestly, you're likely on the edge of what the PSU can handle. Everything together might peak near 350W, which keeps you under 70% usage, but that’s still pretty tight. If you can, consider upgrading your PSU soon for peace of mind.
