Will a 5070 GPU be good enough for 3440×1440 gaming in 8 years?

I'm curious if a 5070 GPU will hold up for playing AAA games at max settings for 8 years, especially at a resolution of 3440x1440. I initially considered getting a 5080 for my build that includes a Ryzen 7 9800X3D. I heard some people say that a 5070 is more than enough for gaming alone—how accurate is that? Thanks for any insights!

Expectations definitely need to shift over time. If you're hoping for max performance 8 years from now, it won't happen. You might be better off buying the strongest GPU you can find today and preparing to adjust your settings down the line.

Got it. So, it's really about getting the best hardware now and being flexible in the future, right?

Honestly, nothing available today is likely to run games on max settings for 8 years. Technology evolves quickly, and even the best GPUs from today will struggle down the line as new titles are released.

I don't think the 5070 will manage max settings at 3440x1440 for that long. Even now, it can’t maximize settings for many AAA titles at that resolution. It's probably not the best choice for a long-term investment in gaming.
