Will an Intel Core Ultra 9 285k Limit an Asus Astral 5090’s Performance?

I'm curious if the Intel Core Ultra 9 285k processor could hold back the performance of an Asus Astral 5090 graphics card. I know that AMD processors, especially the new 9950x3d, are often seen as better, but I'm wondering if anyone has experienced any bottlenecks with this specific combo.

Here’s a link that discusses 1440p performance with a 4090. It suggests that a 5090 might perform better at 4k than you’d expect.

Thanks for the info! I primarily want to game at 4k but I’ve always been an Intel user. I considered switching to the 9950X 3D, but with them out of stock I went with the Core Ultra 9 285k. After reading up, I’m not sure if I should wait for the AMD chip to be available.

At 1080p, definitely. Any CPU will bottleneck a 5090 while gaming at that resolution. But if you're gaming at 4k, you should be fine. 1440p is trickier; it really depends on the game type you’re playing.

Even high-end CPUs like the 9950X3D can experience bottlenecks in specific situations. It’s something to keep in mind.

There's always some level of bottleneck with any CPU and GPU pairing. It depends a lot on the resolution you’re gaming at.

Yeah, typically GPUs should be the component working at full capacity, but it's the CPU that can sometimes hold them back.
