Will an Intel i5 12400F and Radeon RX 7600 Run Modern Games Smoothly?

I'm looking to build a gaming rig that can consistently hit 60 FPS on high settings for titles like Clair Obscure, Indiana Jones, and Cyberpunk. I've considered using the Intel i5 12400F paired with the Radeon RX 7600, but I've also heard some mixed reviews about Intel, especially concerning their newer CPUs. Would this combo be sufficient for modern gaming, or would I be better off with an AMD Ryzen 5 5500 instead?

The Ryzen 5 5500 is pretty much on par with something like an i5-10400 in gaming. So, you'd be getting about 20% better performance with the 12400F. Stick with the 12400F and RX 7600; don’t let the rumors sway you without doing some research.

Yeah, that should be a solid combo! You'll have a good experience with modern games on high settings—definitely worth it.

I've had an RX 7600 for a couple of years, and I'm ready to upgrade. Certain modern games can really bog it down—especially in 1440p. For example, I get frame drops in Expedition 33 and Cyberpunk runs pretty well, usually 80-90 fps, but I’d look for something else if you want better performance. If you can snag it under $250, that’s okay. Otherwise, maybe consider saving for an RTX 4060.

If I could get some extra cash, I might be able to afford an RTX 4060 instead, but I'm not super picky about performance. Appreciate your input!

You'll be fine with that combo. Intel's issues are mainly with their 13th and 14th gen CPUs; the 12th gen, like the 12400F, is still really good. In fact, the 12400F performs similarly to the Ryzen 5 5600, making it a better choice than the 5500.

Just a heads up, Indiana Jones is pretty CPU-intensive, and I found it strained my 11400. If you're looking at Cyberpunk too, definitely go for the 12400F over the 5500. The issues with Intel were limited to higher-end and newer generations; the 12th gen is all good.
