Will DDR5 Prices Drop Soon or Stay High?

I've noticed that DDR5 and DDR4 RAM prices have been surging lately. I just started building my PC, and I saw the price of RAM literally double overnight! Is this just a marketing trick before Black Friday, or should we really be worried about these price hikes sticking around?

I agree! The tech industry often uses artificial scarcity as a strategy. This sudden spike feels coordinated across vendors and news outlets, like they all decided to raise prices at the same time. I wouldn’t expect a drop for a while; these price hikes seem pretty planned out.

It's true! With AI data centers hoarding RAM, it's likely prices will remain high for an extended period. It could even take years before we see any significant relief, especially with deals like OpenAI's setup to buy a large portion of global DRAM production.

I reached out to a rep for Lexar, and they indicated that this shortage might last at least two years for DRAM chips. It’s frustrating to think it might be a long time before we see lower prices again!

Honestly, predicting RAM prices is tough. A lot of experts think the current surge is due to production shifts towards HBM RAM for AI GPUs. It’s not looking like prices are going to drop in the next couple of months.

Sadly, this might just be the beginning of the price hikes. I wouldn't be surprised if we continue to see increases! It's really frustrating to think about how much they can charge us. It feels like a greed-driven market.
