Will Moving My M.2 SSD Cause Driver Issues?

I currently have an M.2 SSD in my PC, and I plan to transfer it to my new build. I'm a bit concerned about potential driver conflicts since I'm switching from an Intel i5-8500 OEM setup to an AMD AM4 5500. The only parts I'll be keeping are the RAM and storage. Is it likely that this will cause driver issues, and is there a way to avoid them?

There's a chance Windows might get deactivated when you switch systems, but you can easily reactivate it through the settings. I’d suggest doing a clean install of Windows after that to give you a fresh start.

It's a bit of a gamble. Usually, Windows will load the appropriate drivers for most hardware, but there’s a chance that old drivers could clash with the new setup. My advice? Back up your important data, and consider doing a fresh Windows installation on the new system to avoid any hiccups.

Most modern SSDs are pretty forgiving and should work with the default AHCI driver in Windows. However, if you’re using an NVMe SSD, it’s smart to grab the latest driver from the manufacturer to ensure everything runs smoothly. Also, don’t forget to check your BIOS settings to make sure it's set to AHCI mode—it can impact your SSD's performance. Keeping your firmware updated is crucial too! If you do hit any snags, updating drivers and firmware is a good first step.

You're right, but I think the original poster is worrying more about the other hardware drivers that might need attention.
