My desktop PC just died, and I'm looking to swap out the motherboard and CPU. The current parts I've got are:
- Motherboard: GIGABYTE B450 AORUS PRO WIFI
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
- RAM: CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3200MHz C16
I'm considering this bundle from Microcenter:
- AMD Ryzen 7 9700X, Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX Ice, G.Skill Flare X5 Series 32GB DDR5-6000
So, I have two questions:
1. Can I use my existing RAM with this new motherboard, since it seems to use DDR4 while the bundle uses DDR5?
2. Will the CPU cooler that came with my 2700X fit the new setup?

Solid bundle choice! To answer your questions:
1. No, your RAM won't fit; DDR4 and DDR5 are not compatible. Also, for DDR5 setups, it's better to avoid using four sticks as it doesn't perform well on a dual-channel memory controller. If you need more than 32GB, consider selling the 32GB from the bundle and buying a new kit.
2. The cooler will technically fit, but it isn't ideal. You don't have to break the bank; a cooler around $40 will do a great job. If you're really concerned about temperatures, look for something designed for better cooling, especially since the 9700X is a powerful chip.
Your DDR4 RAM won't work with that new motherboard since it uses DDR5. You might want to sell your RAM and go for the new DDR5 that comes with the bundle. Also, you'll need a new CPU cooler for the Ryzen 7 9700X; the one that came with the 2700X isn't up to the task.
Actually, the Wraith Prism cooler from your 2700X can work with the 9700X, but you may want something stronger since the 9700X can run hot.
Got it, thanks! By the way, is that a solid bundle I’m looking at?
