Will My Laptop Handle Kubuntu?

I'm new to Linux and looking to switch my laptop to Kubuntu since I'm no longer able to use Windows 10 and my device can't support Windows 11. I've done some research, and this distro came highly recommended. I'd love for experienced users to check my hardware and let me know if there are any concerns about support or performance, especially since I mainly use it for everyday browsing. Here's my hardware: Intel Core i5-6300U CPU @ 2.40GHz, 16GB RAM, 238GB SSD, Intel HD Graphics 520, and a 64-bit OS. Also open to any tips about making the transition, perhaps starting with a partition. Thanks so much for your help!

You'll be just fine with those specs! For general browsing and non-demanding tasks, your hardware should handle Kubuntu without any issues. Just avoid any heavy gaming or resource-intensive applications, and you should have a smooth experience!

I've run Linux on older laptops with lower specs, and they worked fine. Since you have a solid SSD, you should be okay too. Just test it out with a live boot first to see how well everything is detected—especially your WiFi chipset, as that's often key with laptops!

If you're used to Windows, you might want to try Zorin OS instead. It has a familiar interface similar to Windows, and with your laptop specs, you won't have any trouble running it. Just be mindful that games you couldn't run on Windows may also face challenges on Linux.

Honestly, you shouldn't have any performance issues at all. Linux is generally lighter on resources than Windows, so with your setup, you can run pretty much any distro without a hitch.
