I'm looking to upgrade my old monitor to a 27" Samsung Odyssey G5 at 1440p, but I'm still using an older system and can't upgrade it just yet. My specs include an Intel Core i5-3570, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, and a 1 TB hard drive. My graphics card is the Nvidia GeForce 750 Ti, which has VGA, Mini HDMI, and DVI outputs. Currently, I'm using a DVI to HDMI adapter for my 1080p monitor, but I'm wondering if this setup will let me use the new 1440p monitor at above 60Hz. If it won't work, I'm considering a backup plan of getting a 1080p monitor—specifically, a model that could possibly support 100Hz or 120Hz. Any advice on how to achieve the best performance would be appreciated!

I had the same setup with my 750 Ti, and I found that the Mini HDMI output could only go up to 60Hz at both 1080p and 1440p. It really depends on the specific model of your card, though. The DVI connection is limited to 60Hz as well, so unfortunately, even if your monitor supports higher refresh rates, you won't be able to take advantage of that with your current setup.
Using Mini HDMI to HDMI is your easiest option, but I suspect your GPU only supports HDMI 1.4, which limits you to 75Hz at 1440p. To achieve higher refresh rates, you'd need HDMI 2.0/2.1 or DisplayPort. Also, I'd suggest against getting a 27" 1080p monitor; the quality just doesn't compare to a 1440p one.
