Hey folks! I'm currently running a Ryzen 5 5600X, which is maxing out and bottlenecking my RTX 4080 Super — especially in games like Battlefield 2042 where my GPU usage is only at around 70%. I'm experiencing input lag too, which is pretty rough on my 240Hz monitor.
Here are my specs for reference:
- CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X
- GPU: RTX 4080 Super
- Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX B550-E
- RAM: 16GB (2x8GB) Corsair @ 3200 MHz
- Monitor: ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM.
I'm considering an upgrade to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D. My questions are:
1. Will my GPU usage increase to around 99-100% in Battlefield games?
2. Will this reduce the input lag at 240Hz?
I'm also on a tight budget; should I just upgrade the CPU for now, or do I also need to upgrade the motherboard and RAM?
Thanks for any input!

Upgrading to the Ryzen 7 5800X3D should definitely help increase your GPU usage and could also lessen input lag. Just keep in mind that sometimes what feels like input lag might also be related to frame rates. When your CPU struggles, your overall frame rate drops, which can affect the perceived smoothness of gameplay. It's worth checking your CPU usage closely to confirm it's the real issue here!
I think the sluggish aim was already a problem before your GPU upgrade. Might be more than just the CPU!
