Windows Screen Went Black and Made a Strange Noise After Dual-Boot Setup—What Could Cause It?

I installed Linux Mint alongside Windows in a dual-boot configuration, and everything initially worked normally. After spending some time in Windows, the screen suddenly went black and the computer started making an unusual noise. I shut it down and deleted Linux Mint because I was worried the dual-boot setup had caused the problem. Was this related to Mint, and what should I check to prevent it from happening again?

This probably wasn’t caused by Linux Mint or the dual-boot setup. A black screen with unusual computer noise is more commonly related to Windows, the graphics driver, overheating, or another hardware issue. Start by updating or reinstalling the graphics driver, and check temperatures and hardware diagnostics. Searching for the exact noise and Windows black-screen symptoms may also point to the cause.
