I'm looking to revive three old smartphones to give to my kids, and I want to install a Linux distribution on them that isn't Android. Since I've never done this before, I could use some guidance on which distros would work and how to install them. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Just a thought—are you sure this isn't an XY problem? What are you hoping to achieve by installing a non-Android OS? It might help narrow down the options.
