My mum is upgrading from her iPhone 13 Pro Max to an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and we've been using my dad's Apple ID for a while. We're both looking to create our own Apple IDs to set up an Apple Family plan. However, we want to make sure we don't lose any of our data—photos, contacts, and so on—while making this transition. I was thinking about transferring everything to a laptop (not a Mac) and then importing it back to the new iPhone. Is there a better way to accomplish this without risking any data loss?

You can create a new Apple ID directly on your laptop. First, make sure to log out of your dad's Apple ID on the iPhone without erasing any data. Then, log in with the new Apple ID and allow it to sync everything with iCloud. Just remember to back up the iPhone beforehand—better safe than sorry! You likely won't need to restore the phone if you're just changing the Apple ID, but it's always good to have that backup just in case. If you're transferring files between devices, do a backup before and potentially after logging out to preserve everything.
Will this method really work without any risk of losing our important files? We have so many memories stored that we can’t afford to lose!
