I've had a trackpad issue with my Mac, and since I have AppleCare, I took it to the Apple Store for repairs. They needed to order a part, so I went back home. After getting a call that the part was in, I was informed that I would need to bring my Mac in for repair, but it could take 2 to 3 days. This is a huge problem for me as I'm self-employed and rely on my computer for work. I requested to wait there for the repair since I knew it wouldn't take long, but the employee said I couldn't because people were ahead of me in line. I suggested they check me in now, and I could be there within 20 minutes, but they said I had to turn off 'Find My Mac' to check in. I don't understand why this is necessary. Now I'm facing additional costs for transportation back and forth downtown Chicago and losing work days just to get this minor repair done. Can anyone explain why this step is needed?

It's pretty common for Apple to require 'Find My Mac' to be turned off before they can proceed with repairs, especially if the device is activation locked. They do this to ensure that the device is not stolen and that it can be serviced properly. If you're really pressed for time, you could consider talking to a manager when you drop off your Mac. They sometimes can expedite repairs for urgent situations. Also, if you have a backup laptop, even an older one, that could really help you out during this repair time.
That’s a solid thought! I didn’t realize they had those protocols in place. I might just have to use my old laptop to get by.
