I was just trying to play around with Arch Linux using a live USB and didn't want to mess with my actual Windows setup—just a bit of testing. But during the partitioning step, I accidentally overwrote my laptop's main disk instead of the USB. Yeah, I know it was a rookie mistake. Now, my Windows is gone, and I'm feeling pretty dumb. Is reinstalling Windows my only option now, or is there some sort of recovery trick I'm missing? Any advice (or roasts) would be welcome!

Congrats on 'removing the bloatware'...kind of? Seriously though, if you're looking to reinstall Windows, just download the latest ISO from Microsoft and use a USB creation tool. It'll take some time, but it’s probably easier than trying to recover everything. Getting a fresh start might even be a good thing! And for the future, definitely consider easier distros to start with before jumping into Arch.
First off, don’t beat yourself up too much. We’ve all done something similar! In terms of recovering your data, if you had a backup, great! If not, you might be out of luck unless you can use recovery tools, but it sounds like a reinstall is your best bet. In the future, definitely use a backup or explore using a virtual machine before going all in on a new OS.
Yeah, backing up is key! Also, playing around with live distros is way safer.
Look, it sucks losing Windows, but think of this as a chance to set up your partitions how you want them! Just make sure to leave space for both Windows and whatever Linux distro you decide on. And yeah, using a VM or a separate hardware is a great way to test things without risking your main setup.

This advice is solid! Starting simple makes the learning curve way less steep.
