Why is TV audio so bad these days? Should I get a soundbar?

I'm really frustrated with the audio quality of modern TVs. When I was younger, the volume was perfect and consistent across shows and movies. Now, I find myself cranking up the volume just to hear dialogue, and then getting blasted by loud commercials or music moments. It's like I have to adjust the volume constantly just to keep up! I mostly watch YouTube and podcasts, but without subtitles, I can hardly understand anything. Is there a way to fix this, or should I just get a soundbar? I'm not looking to set up a complex stereo system because that seems outdated. Why can't my TV sound as good as my phone?

I feel you on this! I got a soundbar because the audio quality in most TVs today is pretty lackluster. The problem is, broadcasting standards that used to ensure sound consistency have changed with streaming platforms. What you hear is basically whatever they send out—no adjustments. Plus, TV manufacturers want to make TVs thinner, but that means smaller, crappier speakers. That's a big part of the issue.

Totally agree! It's hard to find quality sound in those slim designs. You really can't fit decent speakers in a TV that's super thin.
