I'm a fan of Linux Mint, but I can't stand the Cinnamon desktop environment. I'm curious if I can run KDE with Mint, or if there's another distro that offers a KDE version that would suit me better.

If you dislike Cinnamon but still want to stick with Ubuntu, definitely check out Kubuntu! It offers a more pleasant KDE experience. Also, there’s KDE Neon if you’re into the latest features and updates, although it’s more of a rolling release. Just steer clear of installing KDE on Mint; you might end up with crashes and instability.

I wouldn't recommend installing KDE on Mint either; it's known to crash frequently. Instead, try KDE Neon or Fedora KDE which are designed for a better KDE experience out of the box. You'll avoid the headaches associated with mixing environments that weren't meant to go together.

You can technically install KDE on Linux Mint, but it's not the best option. Since Mint is designed around the Cinnamon desktop, you'll face some issues because of the differences between the GTK used by Mint and the Qt used by KDE Plasma. If you want a smooth experience, I'd recommend looking at distros that come with KDE as their main environment. Options like KDE Neon, Kubuntu, or Fedora KDE are great alternatives that provide better integration and performance with KDE.

It's true that KDE on Mint isn’t ideal. I had a pretty frustrating experience with it myself.

To answer your question about Mint features, the primary differentiator is Cinnamon. If you don't like it, Mint's not the best choice for you. There are distros like Q4OS which use KDE as the flagship desktop and might give you that Mint-like feel without the Cinnamon baggage.

I agree with you on Q4OS! It's a solid choice if you're looking for something Debian-based with KDE.

Yeah, you can run KDE on Mint, but it's not built for it. There are quite a few distros with KDE as the primary desktop that will give you a much better experience. For something user-friendly that's based on Ubuntu, consider Kubuntu. Or if you're looking for something fresh, give Fedora KDE or OpenSUSE a shot. They both have excellent KDE support and customization!

I really enjoyed my time with Fedora KDE. It's pretty smooth and has lots of features!
