Hey everyone! I've run into a puzzling issue with my internet connection. My ISP promises 500Mbps for both upload and download, and I've experienced that speed on all my devices, including my laptop and phone. However, recently, I've noticed that downloads via Steam and direct downloads on my laptop are capped at around 100Mbps (or about 12MB/s). When I conduct speed tests, my laptop shows that limit too, while my phone consistently hits the full 500Mbps during tests. I've connected my laptop to the 5GHz Wi-Fi network, and nothing has changed on the device. I've also tried downloads using a VPN, but that doesn't help either. Could this be throttling by my ISP, or is there something else going on? Why would my phone still manage 500Mbps on the same network?

It could be the server you’re downloading from that’s imposing limits, not your ISP. Many sites throttle speeds, especially during peak times or when new games launch. They simply can’t handle all the traffic at maximum speeds, so your laptop's downloads may be affected!
Since your phone is getting the full speed, it’s likely not your ISP throttling your connection. It might be worth comparing direct download speeds on both devices to see if the laptop consistently caps out at 100Mbps. Also, trying a hotspot or a different Wi-Fi connection can help isolate the issue!
