Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a pickle. I accidentally deleted a conversation on my phone after I did an iCloud backup, and now I'm trying to get that back. My question is whether the iCloud backup actually includes all the messages on my phone or just the ones that weren't synced to iCloud. I have around 37.2 GB of messages, but honestly, I'm not sure which ones are which since Messages in iCloud was turned off at the time of the backup. Some could be from conversations I deleted on purpose, while others might be ones I want back. Should I restore the backup first, then sync my messages from iCloud, or should I try something else? I've also got a Mac, so I'm open to options!

iCloud backups don’t include items that are already syncing to iCloud. This means if you have Messages in iCloud turned on, those messages won’t be included in your backup. If you didn’t enable that before your backup, though, your messages should be part of the backup. You might want to try restoring from the backup first and then check if the messages you need are there before syncing with iCloud.

Ah, got it! So if I didn't have Messages in iCloud on before the backup, I should be able to find those messages in the backup. Sounds like restoring first is the way to go!
