Looking for Feedback on My Build for a Coworker’s Nephew

I'm helping a coworker put together a PC for their nephew and I'd love some second opinions on the components I've chosen. The goal is to future-proof it as much as possible while keeping costs manageable since the kid doesn't have a huge budget.

I opted for an AMD CPU, specifically the 9600X, which I think is decent, but I've heard it might be on the weaker side. I'm banking on the AMD CPU+GPU Smart Access Memory feature to mitigate that. The RAM is standard DDR5 6000 for compatibility with AM5 CPUs, and I'm sticking with PCIe5 storage to ensure longevity, even though I know PCIe4 is cheaper.

For the GPU, I went with a 16GB ray-tracing capable card since I'm concerned that 8GB won't cut it in a few years. As for the case, I picked a budget-friendly option that just needs to work. Any suggestions for tweaks or how to lower the price a bit?

I think you’re overthinking the storage. A premium SSD isn’t really necessary for gaming; going with a Crucial P3 could save you some bucks. Plus, switching to the 7600X if it’s on sale would provide similar performance but might be cheaper. Also, don't worry too much about PCIe generations for your setup—B650 will work just as well!

Just a heads up: your storage claim isn’t right; it’s actually a Gen 5x2, which is similar to a Gen 4 drive. You might want to rethink that. Also, you’re right about the 9600X being a decent choice but the 7600X could offer some better value without sacrificing much performance.

Overall, I think you have a solid build here! But honestly, that CPU isn’t weak at all; it’s actually a great choice! I'd say the GPU is a bit underwhelming for high-res gaming, but if the focus is on 1080p performance, it should do just fine. Consider switching to a 1TB SSD instead; that could save you some cash!

Yeah, I agree! If the coworker can snag a monitor from work, then 1080p at 60Hz should be all he needs!
