I'm trying to figure out how to safely dispose of a lithium battery. I live in a place where there aren't any recycling centers nearby, and I'm really worried about tossing it in the regular trash because of the fire risk. What can I do?

In some areas, community recycling authorities can help with that. It's worth a shot to check their guidelines!
Around here, we just bag up our batteries and leave them on top of the recycling bin when we put it out for collection. You should probably ask your waste management service if they have a specific protocol for battery pick-up.
If it's a small handheld battery, some stores like Home Depot or Lowe's typically accept them for recycling. Worth a visit if you can get to one!
You might want to check if any local repair shops can take it off your hands. They often deal with batteries regularly, so they might help you out.
That sounds like a good idea! I'll ask at the town hall too. I figure if cell phone shops change batteries, they should take mine as well.
